Tim Courtney

Tim Courtney studied Vis-Com at Gray’s School of Art gaining a BA (hons) degree in design, graduating in 2004, before heading off to Dundee’s Duncan Of Jordanstone College of Art to complete an Msc in Electronic Imaging in 2005.

Tim has been making films since he was 19 years old. His Masters year work included collaborative works with Shaun Hughes; “The Pass” and “Central” as well as his Masters final exhibition short film “The Memory’s Remains”.

In 2006 Tim Courtney and long time collaborator Shaun Hughes set up Factotum Films as a means to make new works and distribute them nationwide in a hope to expand the company and improve as film makers and artists. Tim and Shaun released “Remember Me As A Time Of Day” in 2007 which received some nationwide festival success. The film’s opening scene featuring a car hitting a child being a major talking point still. In 2008 Factotum Films joined forces with Falcon Audio Visual to release “Emily”. But due to the films unfortunate resemblance to the tragic Madeline McCann story, the film has suffered on the festival scene.

Tim is not only a Director but also writes the scores for films. Although writing the music to all his films, he first collaborated with Shaun in a musical capacity for his stop motion animation short “Toshiba60”, a collaboration with Martin Murphy in 2006. Tim also produced and scored the music to Shaun’s 2009 short film “Mother”.

At the moment Tim is working on a new short film; “An Artificial Light”, a tale of romance and heart ache, due for release February 2011.
